First Christian Church in Stillwater has three paved parking areas: a small lot north of the church and a larger lot west of the church, both accessed from Mathews, a one-way street from Duck Street; and a large lot to the east, across Duck Street.
In 2004, the Board of Trustees approved a Parking Lots Policy covering management and control of access, with procedures and forms for groups requesting use of the lots.
To control our parking lots and maintain space for church activity parking, a sign is posted at the entrance to each lot. The sign states "FCC ACTIVITY PARKING ONLY, VIOLATORS WILL BE TOWED AT OWNER'S EXPENSE." Since August, a small group of volunteers have guarded our lots and issued friendly notices that FCC lots are for church activity parking only. Although some improvement has occurred, too many have chosen to ignore our requests.
Window "hang tags" are issued to appropriate staff of FCC, Preschool, and the Life Center. To preclude towing a church member's vehicle, members may provide the church office their vehicle tag number, or purchase a "Chalice" window sticker for 50¢. The "Chalice" may be either affixed to the windshield or placed on the dash of the vehicle.
Please provide comments or suggestions as to parking lot control to Bill Brown, the church Parking Lot Coordinator (call 714-1209; or e-mail osuwcbrown (at) suddenlink (dot) net; or send to church office). Suggestions received to date have addressed using a "boot" device that may be attached to a vehicle wheel instead of towing, and establishing a "Paid Permit" system for the East Lot. Your input is welcomed!
